A few months ago my doctor changed me over from Glimepiride to
Metformin HCL ER 500 mg tablet once each evening with my evening meal.
Prior to this change my fasting and postprandial BG readings were
quite satisfactory...less than 140 postprandial and less than 100
morning fasting.

I now have fasting BG readings that sometimes are in the 130s but my
postprandial readings are still in the healthy normal range of around
120-135.

I take no other medications except Levothyroxine 100 mcg tablet each
morning half an hour before breakfast and Ropinirole 0.25 mg tablet
with my evening meal.

Any ideas as to what has caused my morning fasting BG readings to
escalate? Gordon

You are on a starting dose of Metformin. It probably isn't enough to do
anything for your BG.

Yes, I'm on a second level starting dosage level of one 500 mg tablet
each evening. My doctor switched me over from Glimepiride to Metformin
several weeks ago. The Glimepiride did keep my BG readings well within
the healthy range but maybe I need a higher dosage of Metformin. It
does very well throughout the day but my morning fasting BG readings
are sometimes as high as 130 or so. Gordon

My Ex was on 2 metfomin in the am and 1 in the evenings worked grate for

Thanks, Andy. Maybe if I keep working on this I'll eventually get it
figured out. My daytime postprandial BG readings are usually well
below 140 mg/dl but my early morning fasting BG readings are often up
in the 130-140 mg/dl range. I have tried numerous evening diet/fasting
approaches but nothing seems to work.

I am reasonably convinced that something is causing my liver to dump a
load of glucose into my blood during the very early morning hours and
this doesn't get cleared out for a while. Usually my breakfast
postprandial is the 110-120 mg/dl range. I typically eat breakfast
about 45 minutes after waking up and taking my morning fasting
reading. Gordon

For most before meals in the am normal readings are 90 to 120
but can be higher or lower depends on the person.
i would talk to youre doctor and see what he or she says.
what other meds do you take?

what other meds do you take?
Andy, I'm taking one Levothryoxine 100 mcg tablet each morning as soon
as I wake up. Then I take one Ropinirole 0.25 mg tablet about an hour
before bedtime. I also take one Metformin 500 mg tablet with my
evening meal.

I am sure my blood glucose readings are somehow related to the
chemotherapy that I went through to try to clear out the melanoma from
my scalp that had metastasized down through the lymph glands along the
left side of my head. The radiation therapy damaged my thyroid gland,
making it necessary that I take Levothyroxine. The other two are just
routine medications to help stabilize my general health.

Prior to the development of nodular melanoma on my scalp during the
late part of 2012, I took Glimepiride to help stabilize my blood
glucose readings. My doctor thinks the Glimepiride may have caused my
cancer development to move along faster than it normally would have.
It didn't CAUSE the cancer but it may have accelerated its
development, once it got under way.

I finished the chemotherapy and other oncology processes in December,
2013. I keep hoping that the "hang-over" effects will clear away soon
but they are hanging on.
