Melanoma newsgroup?

Is there a newsgroup directed toward malignant melanoma? I can't
locate one in the newsgroups directory.

I've just been diagnosed, having a small malignant melanoma on my
scalp toward the rear. I can't see this blemish and had not really
noticed it until a few weeks ago. At that time I thought I had scraped
my scalp while trimming some hedges or some such, but the "wound" did
not heal. I went to my dermatologist and he took a tissue sample and
sent it to the lab. The test results came back positive.

I'm scheduled for a complete removal of this scalp blemish next week,
and at that time the doctor will take some lymph node samples from the
larger lymph nodes in my throat. If he finds evidence in these lymph
nodes that my melanoma has metastasized I guess I'll be in a life
threatening situation. Anyone here ever gone through this kind of
thing? Gordon

Not me. However, I've noticed that the cancer-related newsgroups tend to be more general about what type of cancer they're for, so you might want to repeat the newsgroups search, looking for "cancer" instead of "melanoma".

Also, the TuDiabetes website has many forums directed to those with both diabetes and some other condition. You may want to check if there's one for both diabetes and cancer.

Sorry to hear that. My step grandpa had a lot of spots removed. He
referred to them as having spots knocked off of his head. I don't really
remember what the cause of his demise was though.

Sorry to hear that. My step grandpa had a lot of spots removed. He

My family has a propensity for melanoma, I guess. My older sister had
some facial disfiguring surgery to remove one from her right cheek
area. She died a few months later from pancreatic cancer.

My dad had the same kind of surgery but on his nose. It seems to have
gone well and he never had any further problems with melanoma.

My grandfather, back in the days when they didn't know how to treat
cancer, had a similar melanoma on his left cheek. When his doctor
tried to remove it he cut away most of the left side of granddad's
face but still didn't get all the melanoma cells. A few months later
granddad shouted at my uncle who was several yards away. When granddad
shouted his jugular vein ruptured and he bled to death immediately.

I've gone regularly, every year, to a dermatologist who specializes in
skin cancer treatments. He has frozen off many skin blemishes that he
called pre-cancerous. But, somehow we missed this one on the top rear
of my head, I can't see it in a mirror and I didn't feel anything
there until about 6 weeks ago. When my next appointment with my
dermatologist came up two weeks ago he was really surprised and
concerned that this was beyond the simple cryogenic surgery process.
He cut a tissue sample out and sent it to a lab and the test results
came back....melanoma.
